Ira Brown (below), who attended Gonzaga University, joined the Legends after playing with the Austin Toros of the NBDL. While playing with the Legends, Brown averaged 18.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game and was also known for his highlight reel dunks. He recently signed with Asociacion Espanola from one of Argentina’s top basketball leagues, and though he will be missed, the Legends want to congratulate him and wish the best of luck in his new endeavor!

Travis Gabbidon (below), who attended the University of Texas at San Antonio, joined the Legends from the NBDL. Despite only playing during the last half of the Legends season, he was a great addition as he was able to play multiple positions and bring a wide range of ability to the team. Gabbidon recently completed a successful first season for the Albury Wodonga Bandits in Australia’s ABA League (highlights can be found here). The Legends would like to congratulate him on his accomplishments in Australia!

The Arizona legends participated in the Mesa Community College Summer League held during the entire month of July. The team finished with a 7 – 1 record and were the outright champions this summer after finishing tied for 2nd in last summers event.
The legends would win their opener defeating Chandler – Gilbert Community College by a score of 79 – 65. The legends would then lose their only game of the summer by a narrow margin of 71 – 76 to Grand Canyon University’s top team. AZL would then go on to win 6 games in a row and clinch the league championship on the leagues last night with a convincing 40 point victory over a High School All Star select team. Talib Uqdah and Adam Arreola lead the team in scoring all summer including a blow up 40 point performance by Uqdah in the legends 3rd game of the league!
This summer the normally Jordan Ballard led Legends were under the direction of Sam Gallegos, a former legends player, who did a great job with player management as well as in game coordination. Sam will continue to be a key asset to the Legends squad.
This summer’s roster included: #1 Jordan Ballard, # 8 Chris Lopez, #11 Talib Uqdah, #13 Ryan Little, #20 Greg Hernandez, #24 Todd Simon, #30 Gabe Sandoval, #32 Adam Arreola, #33 Fred Dudley, #34 Dave Cuen, #50 Ira Brown, Coach Sam Gallegos.
The legends will be back in action for the 2010-2011 basketball season, starting with a scrimmage on October 26th at 7:30pm at South Mountain Community College.
The Arizona Legends took on the national team from Angola Thursday night in the Arizona Legends' first international game. Angola National came out strong, going up 9 - 0 to start the game. The Legends started out cold missing their first five shots before Mike Anspach finally knocked one down.
The legends and Angola battled the entire first half, Angola leading the whole way. The Legends closed the half on a 7 - 0 run with a three point buzzer beater from Ryan Little.
Angola led after the first half forty-seven to forty-one. At halftime the Arizona Legends made some defensive adjustments coming out in a two-three zone, slowing the fast Angola team.
Legends' Adam Arreola and Gabe Sandoval hit some timely buckets and Damion Newsom capped off a 9 - 0 run with a three pointer, giving the Legends their first lead with six minutes left in the game.
The Arizona Legends built their lead to eight points and hung on to win by connecting on eight consecutive free throws. Terrence Anderson had a big lay up and made some crucial free throws down the stretch. When the final buzzer sounded the scoreboard read: 94 – 88 in favor of the Legends.
The Arizona Legends were led in scoring by Damion Newsom with nineteen points while Adam Arreola chipped in fourteen. Mike Anspach went five for six scoring eleven points. Gabe Sandoval had the line of the night with eighteen points, six rebounds and seven assists. The legends Scored ninety-four points on twenty assists as a team knocking down a whopping eighteen three pointers.
